Saying Caitlyn looked like 'Mrs. Doubtfire', Hughley added, '[Arthur Ashe] fought [a] segregated South...with dignity and honor, and Caitlyn Jenner put on a dress. I don't think it's the same thing.'
D.L. Hughley slammed Caitlyn Jenner over both her transition and her ESPY's Arthur Ashe Courage Award. The comedian made the harsh comment during an interview with a videographer on a New York street on Thursday, July 16 just hours after the awards event.
In a video obtained by TMZ, Hughley argued that Caitlyn was not the right person to be honored with the Courage Award because she didn't fit with the criteria. "I think that it's named after Arthur Ashe," Hughley said. "Arthur Ashe from Richmond, Virginia, a symbol of courage."
"He fought [a] segregated South, a very segregated profession, he fought AIDS with dignity and honor," he went on. "And Caitlyn Jenner put on a dress. I don't think it's the same thing. I think Arthur Ashe and Caitlyn Jenner have very little in common." Hughley also argued that the late basketball player Lauren Hill, who died of cancer, was more worthy of receiving the Courage Award.
When asked if Caitlyn was a "beautiful woman," Hughley immediately said no, adding that she's beautiful "in a, like, 'Mrs. Doubtfire' way." He later discussed recent criticism of Serena Williams claiming she looked like a man.
"That was a little weird to me. The man looks like a woman, but the woman looks like a man. That's ridiculous," he noted. "Serena Williams is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen on a tennis court, and Bruce Jenner looks like every P.E. teacher I ever had."
During the ESPY Awards, Caitlyn was supported by all his kids from the Kardashian-Jenner clan minus Rob Kardashian. Caitlyn's ex Kris Jenner wasn't seen at the event but she seemingly saw her accepting the award from television.
Speaking to Us Weekly about Caitlyn's ESPY speech, Kris said, "I think it was amazing and very brave." She added that Caitlyn "looked beautiful" in a floor-length cream Versace gown for the event.
While Kris and other Kardashian-Jenner family members appeared to have no hard time dealing with Caitlyn's gender transition, Kylie Jenner reportedly found it hard to accept Caitlyn for who she is. "Kylie has not been taking this whole thing well at all and cannot come to terms with the fact that her father is now Caitlyn," a source told Radar Online.
"Caitlyn has been getting more attention than anyone in the family and perhaps that is part of what bothers Kylie," the source added. "But also she feels incredibly alone lately and is barely coping. She used to be daddy's girl but ever since her dad transitioned, Caitlyn does not seem to have the same time for Kylie that Bruce once did."
Kylie was also said crying tears of sorrow when she's watching her father accept the award at the ESPYS.
