Going to Church is not Christianity - Justin Bieber
Justin Drew Bieber, Canadian singer and songwriter has stated that he loves Jesus deep down but that he will not go to church because Christians leave very bad taste in people.
In his recent interview with Complex Magazine, the 21-year-old ‘baby’ crooner, acknowledged that he has Christian friends who are cool, but Christians are ‘overly pushy with every subject, overly churchy, too religious.’
“I do not have to attend church services to be a Christian. Christians leave such a bad taste in people’s mouths, even myself, Bieber quipped.
“I was like, I’m not gonna go to church. I had these church friends and I was like, you guys are cool, I like you guys, but I’m not going to church.
“Then it was the same thing of, just because you went to a weird church before doesn’t mean that this is weird. It doesn’t make you a Christian just by going to church.
“I think that going to church is fellowship, it’s relationship, it’s what we’re here on earth to do, to have this connection that you feel there’s no insecurities. I think that’s where we need to be. Like I said, you don’t need to go to church to be a Christian.
“If you go to Taco Bell, that doesn’t make you a taco,” he added comically.
David Oyelowo was ‘pushed out of UK’ due to lack of roles for black actors
But the British star, who won rave reviews for his portrayal of Martin Luther King in the movie Selma, says he felt ‘pushed out of the UK’ due to the lack of opportunities for black actors.
The 39-year-old believes that things have actually gotten worse for aspiring actors from minority backgrounds over the years.
‘I felt pushed out of the UK because of the glass ceiling I could feel my head bobbing against,’ David said at the launch of a report into diversity in the UK’s creative industries by the Creative Industries Federation (CIF) and the MOBO organisation.
‘I could see that actors, my peers, those who had a similar trajectory to me were going on to do movies, to play leads’.
David, who trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA), said he had to work four times as hard as his good friend Benedict Cumberbatch to get to an even slightly similar position.
He finally made the decision to move to the US during a Stateside trip to promote his role in BBC One show Spooks.
‘I walked around LA and I saw black people on magazine covers, in commercials, on billboards, black people integrated into society in a way I didn’t see here and I started to get uncomfortable with where I lived,’ he says.
‘I felt I was planting my seed in infertile ground.’
David believes that one of the key problems is that those in charge of commissioning tend to be white, middle-class men.
‘We have to change the faces, the gender, of the people who are in positions of power to greenlight projects,’ he says.
He also revealed that he started getting offers for roles back home once he’d make a name for himself in the States.
‘I thought wow, I have to leave and have success elsewhere in order for my ability to be validated’.
David has starred in a number of high profile films including Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Interstellar, Jack Reacher and of course Selma, since moving to America.
The father-of-four, who’s married to English actress Jessica Oyelowo, appeared in Spooks from 2002 to 2004 and starred in the BBC adaptation of Andrea Levy’s novel Small Island in 2009.

Chris Brown won't be able to come to Australia unless he challenges visa refusal and wins
Fairfax Media has confirmed Brown has been issued with a notice of intent to refuse him a visa, just one day before his tickets go on sale.
"I can confirm that a Notice of Intention to Consider Refusal has been issued," Mr Dutton said.
Brown can either challenge the notice or withdraw his application to visit Australia, currently scheduled for December.
Australian officials issued the R&B singer with a notice of their intention to refuse his visa application on Friday night, according to reports.
The controversial singer was convicted in 2009 of assaulting and threatening to kill Rihanna. He was sentenced to five years probation.
The Migration Act states that anyone with a "substantial criminal record" involving a prison sentence of 12 months or more - including a suspended sentence - can be refused a visa.
Activist group GetUp praised the government's decision to deny Brown entry after they mounted a substantial campaign against the singer being allowed into the country.
GetUp! campaigner Sally Rugg said the campaign wasn't just about Brown, but the "horrifying" number of men who have been convicted of violence against women but still retain high profile careers in the entertainment industry.
"This announcement sends a strong signal to Australians that the Federal Government are willing to show strong leadership on gendered violence and that they are prepared to condemn violence against women," she said.
Brown has 28 days to present his case for being allowed to enter Australia.
"Decisions on whether a visa will or will not be issued are made after that timeframe and consideration of the material presented to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection," Mr Dutton said.
Brown has shows booked in Australia in December for his One Hell of a Nite tour. Ticketek have confirmed that tickets will still go on sale on Monday at noon as planned despite the visa refusal.
On Thursday Minister for Women Michaelia Cash said Immigration Minister Peter Dutton was reviewing whether it would be appropriate to issue Brown a visa.
"I'm clearly not going to pre-empt a decision by the minister however I can assure you what my recommendation would be," said Senator Cash."People need to understand, if you are going to commit domestic violence and then you want to travel around the world there are going to be countries that say to you 'You cannot come in because you are not of the character that we expect in Australia'.This is a government that's not afraid to say 'no'."
In her former role as assistant immigration minister, Senator Cash was involved in denying boxer Floyd Mayweather entry to Australia because of his history of family violence
