Ghana campaign: In my Government, I will create Independent prosecutor to fight corruption– Nana Addo.

Nana Addo, the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) says if he is elected president in 2016, he will take practical steps to root out corruption in government by creating an office for a Special Prosecutor who will be independent of Executive Control in order to prosecute corrupt government officials.

Nana Addo said this to a cross-section of Ghanaians in the United Kingdom on Saturday.

“If your goal in coming into government is to enrich yourself, then don’t come. Go to the private sector. Public service is going to be exactly that; public service,” he said.

One of the challenges militating against corruption in Ghana is the unwillingness of governments to prosecute their own officials who are involved in corruption.

This has led to calls for the separation of the office of the Attorney-General from the Ministry of Justice.

Nana Addo’s solution to this, he said, will to create the office of a Special Prosecutor, which will be independent of executive control.

The NPP flag bearer sent a strong warning to party faithful that if anybody is supporting his bid to the presidency because of money, then they should stay off because corruption would not be tolerated in his administration.

Nana Addo who is the flagbearer of the largest opposition party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) also suggested that government must initiate reforms in the financial sector in order to support industrial and agricultural development of Ghana.

According to Nana Akufo Addo, improving the agricultural and industrial sectors is vital to ensure Ghana ends it’s reliance on the exportation of raw materials and the importation of finished products. Addressing the Ghanaian community in Manchester in the UK.

Nana Addo stated that “when our era is over, Ghana the raw material producing country would have been replaced by Ghana the industrial nation. To do this we have to have a policy that is based on three basic elements; developing our industrial capability, enhancing our agricultural productivity and reforming and restructuring the financial sector to support the agricultural and industrial development of our nation.”

“This 3-pronged attack is the way to transforming our nation. It is not new and has been successfully tried in other parts  of the world especially in the new nations of Asia; the Asian tigers Korea Taiwan and Japan,” he added.

In a press statement released by the UK Branch of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo, is of the view that the responsibility of Ghanaians to the nation should be greater than our responsibility to ourselves.

Nana Addo also called on the Electoral Commission to prepare a new voters’ register for the 2016 elections.
He said the situation where only 56 percent of Ghana’s population is registered is unacceptable.
Nana Akufo-Addo who is in the UK on the invitation of the NPP branch there also expressed concerns over worsening economic conditions.

He promised his administration will salvage the economy by adding value to the raw materials Ghana exports.
