Earl Simmons, more commonly known as rapper DMX, has been sentenced to six months in jail for failing to pay US$400,000 in child support.





A New York City Sheriff's Officer spokesman said Simmons was arrested on June 26 before a scheduled performance at Radio City Music Hall,
The 44-year-old was put into a holding cell in upstate New York yesterday and will remain there for six months.
The jail time means the rapper will miss several live performances, including Shaggfest at Virginia Beach.

It isn't the first brush with the law for the musician, who was arrested in 2013 for marijuana possession, two days before he was due in court over drink-driving charges.

Earlier that year he filed for bankruptcy protection in New York, with court papers showing he had less than US$50,000 in assets with up to US$10 million in debt.
He was jailed in 2010 for several drug-related offences and was held in remand for drug and animal cruelty charges in 2008.
