Twin bomb blast rock Gombe, many dead, injured

In Gombe, about 19 persons lost their lives yesterday, when a female bomber disguised herself as a passenger and detonated a bag of explosives at Dukku bus park in the state capital. 

According to an eyewitness, the bomber waited till passengers had already boarded the bus, after which she  left her bag in the bus and exited the vehicle before detonating the explosives.

Confirming the incident to journalists, the Police Public Relation Officer DSP Fwaji Atajiri, said 19 people were feared dead while 25 were injured.

A few hours after the Gombe  blast, many  people were killed in the neighbouring Bauchi State, when a bomb exploded at the Bauchi central market.

Even though there was no official confirmation on the number of casualties, it was gathered that the figure might be have been high because it occurred in a crowded market when shoppers were shopping for the Christmas season.

Commenting on the incident, the Bauchi State Police Command’s Public Relation Officer, DSP Mohammed Haruna, said: “There was bomb explosion at the Bauchi central market on Monday (yesterday) at about 17.30 hours. As a result of the blast, the market went up in flames.”

He explained that the scene was cordoned off by combined security forces including the police explosives ordinance disposal unit.
