Three people have been arrested in connection with an investigation into concerns about a baby in Cardiff, says South Wales Police.
The Police swooped at an address in Cardiff where they found the little boy who had been born to a 19-year-old Romanian woman, in Spain, six weeks earlier.
Three people have now been arrested including the teenage mother and a Spanish couple living in Wales aged 25 and 26.
Police are probing whether the baby was sold to the couple for between £2,000 and £11,000.
The arrests come after Spanish police contacted their UK counterparts amid concerns for the baby’s welfare.
Spanish officers became suspicious as to the tot’s whereabouts when the woman told them the baby had died following an emergency operation in Wales.
The unnamed woman, who gave birth at the Virgen de la Concha hospital Zamora in northern Spain, said the baby was just 15 days old when he died after an injury to his vein.
However, inquiries determined that the child was alive and well and living in Wales.
Now the baby is in the care of social services while South Wales Police await the results of a DNA test to establish who the father is.
It is alleged the mother filled out a registration form for the baby’s birth naming the arrested man as the father of the child.
A South Wales Police spokesman said: "Three people have been arrested in connection with an investigation into concerns baby in Cardiff.
"Two females aged 19 and 26 and a male aged 25 have all been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
"The six-week-old baby boy is safe and well and remains in the care of the local authority."
