No One Reported 11-Year-Old Janiya Thomas Missing for More Than a Year

Bradenton, Florida, Police Chief Michael Radzilowski tells PEOPLE he's "flabbergasted" no one questioned the whereabouts of missing 11-year-old Janiya Thomas for more than a year.
"I am extremely angry that Friday night someone finally calls the police to report this girl is missing," he says. Janiya was last seen in August of 2014.

On Sunday, police found the body of a child they believe to be Janiya stuffed inside a freezer after receiving a tip from one of the girl's family members.
The medical examiner has yet to confirm the identity of the body, but the girl's mother, Keishanna Thomas, is being held on a contempt of court charge for not cooperating with authorities after they first discovered the girl was missing last Friday.

On Monday, Thomas was also charged with aggravated child abuse for an alleged incident involving her 12-year-old son, PEOPLE confirms. Thomas faces additional charges if the body found in the freezer is confirmed to be Janiya.
And she's not the only one who should be afraid, says Radzilowski. The police chief tells PEOPLE that his investigators have "a lot of people running for cover."
"There was a failure to do right by this girl," he says, adding that he plans to hold anyone involved in her disappearance accountable.
"There's enough blame to go around," Radzilowski says.
Janiya's four siblings were taken into protective custody following Thomas' arrest. The investigation is ongoing and Thomas has not yet entered a plea to the charges against her.
