The Nigerian Army said it has come to its attention that some unscrupulous and criminal elements have started using the name of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major General Tukur Yusufu Buratai through Facebook platform requesting for friendship, extort and defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman, issued in a statement on Monday declare that three such accounts exist with various types of names using different photographs of the Chief of Army Staff in uniform and that of Director Defence Information Maj.-Gen. Chris Olukolade as profile photographs have so far been discovered.
Nigerian Army warned that the matter has been reported to Facebook and relevant security agencies for tracking, arrest and prosecution of the criminals, but the public is requested to note and advised not to accept any friendship request or overture from any of such Social media accounts.
