Inmate escapes from Goulburn maximum security prison using knotted bedsheets

A convicted armed robber is back behind bars following a police chase on NSW’s Hume Highway.

Stephen Jamieson allegedly used bedsheets and a pillow to escape from the maximum-security Goulburn jail on Tuesday, sparking a massive manhunt involving helicopters and dogs.

At about 10.50pm on Tuesday police tried to pull over an allegedly stolen utility Vehicle at Narellan, but it did not stop. Police pursued the Vehicle before it was halted by traffic spikes at Pheasant’s Nest.

Police said the 28-year-old tried to flee the scene, but was arrested nearby.

Jamieson has been refused bail and was due to appear at Goulburn local court on Wednesday to face charges over the escape and the pursuit.

A review of security has been launched at Goulburn jail.
