Regarded as the father of modern Nigerian comedy, in Nigeria, Pa Moses Adejumo Olaiya popularly known as Baba Sala was reportedly rushed to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, late last night.
The legendary actor’s heath was said to have deteriorated and required hospital attention and treatment. A family source disclosed that Baba Sala has been ill for the past few months.
The comedian celebrated his 8oth birthday in May this year, surrounded by family and friends.
Alongside other dramatists like Hubert Ogunde, Kola Ogunmola, Oyin Adejobi and Duro Ladipo popularized theater and television acting in Nigeria. He is a prolific filmmaker. Significantly, Baba Sala started his career in show business as a Highlife musician, fronting in 1964 a group known as the Federal Rhythm Dandies where he tutored and guided the Juju music maestro and Legend King Sunny Adé who was his lead guitar player. Moses Olaiya was born 1936 in Ilesha a city located in the south west of Nigeria.
In his active career, he produced and directed many Yoruba Movies and among the popular ones are Orun Mooru in 1982, Aare agbaye in 1993, He was among the few actors who popularized Home Video with his 'Agba Man' movie in 1992. we which him speedy recovery.
